Surrendering a Pet

It is never easy to part with a beloved pet. Jennifer's Pet Rescue understands this and supports you in your time of need. Responsible pet owners surrender animals for a variety of reasons including relocation, medical issues, and financial hardship. Sometimes, things just do not work out. No matter the reason, Jennifer's Pet Rescue is here to help.

To surrender an animal, first complete the appropriate surrender request form.

If you are surrendering a dog or puppy please complete the Dog & Puppy Electronic Surrender Request.

If you are surrendering a cat or kitten please complete the Cat & Kitten Electronic Surrender Request.

Next, email the completed form, along with a recent picture, to JPR@jenniferspetrescue.com.

If you are surrendering multiple pets please complete a separate surrender document for each animal and if possible, send separate pictures.

Please be honest on the forms. Tell us the good, the bad, and the ugly. Does it bite? Jump the fence? Repeatedly take "joy runs" around the neighborhood? Bark incessantly? Scratch the furniture? Eat shoes? Go to the bathroom in the house? Not a problem. Telling us about the animal(s) issues will not sway our decision of whether or not to take the animal. It will only help us make sure their next home is a good fit.

For the safety of our guests, volunteers, and employees we are not able to accept feral animals, dog-aggressive dogs, or Pit Bulls; however, if we are not able to accommodate your animal we are happy to try and help you find another rescue that can. Because we are a rescue and not a shelter, by law, we are not permitted to accept stray animals. Stray animals must first go to a shelter so their owners have a chance to find them. If a stray or feral animal is living in your neighborhood please contact your local animal control office for guidance.

Appointments are required for all surrenders. It helps us make sure we have enough room at the shelter to accommodate all of our guests. Individuals can make appointments to surrender animals privately during the week. Weekend surrender appointments are available in emergency situations. Please do not show up at PetSmart unannounced expecting to surrender a pet.

Proof of ownership is required for all surrenders. Acceptable proof includes (but is not limited to) veterinary records, photos dated at least 5 days prior to the surrender date, previous adoption agreements, etc.
